Food Centre sausages scoop British Sausage Week awards

Two of Ludlow Food Centre’s very own sausages have brought in awards following this year’s British Sausage Week.

The team’s one-off creation of the Pork, Cheddar and Pickle sausage gained a Gold, while their Traditional Gloucester Old Spot Pork Sausage picked up a Silver Award following the ADHB (Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board)-organised event which took place 2nd – 8th November.

Now in its 18th year, British Sausage Week celebrates sausages from across the country, and this year focussed its search for a champion using the theme ‘Sausages of Distinction’, looking for a robust, quality sausage which excels in all areas.

More than 700 different types of sausage were submitted to a panel of judges, and were scored on a combination of taste, texture, appearance and cooking and eating quality.

John Brereton, Butchery Manager at Ludlow Food Centre, said: “We’re delighted that our sausages have brought in more awards.

“We pride ourselves on quality, and to be awarded both a Gold and Silver Award for our efforts really is fantastic news.

“The quality of our very own Gloucester Old Spot pork, reared on the Oakly Park Estate, means that our sausages are always jam-packed with flavour and pack a punch. We continue to innovate and create new and exciting products for every taste.”

Edward Berry, Managing Director at Ludlow Food Centre, said: “The latest award for the butchery counter is testament once more to the dedication and skill that goes in to our sausage making.

“John continues to demonstrate his world-class skills in each aspect of his work, and continues to pass his expert knowledge on to younger members of our butchery team, who we hope will become the next generation of award-winning artisans.”

Ludlow Food Centre, based in Bromfield, just north of Ludlow, is taking orders now for Christmas meats, including turkey, venison and game as well as award-winning charcuterie.
