Ludlow Food Centre hosts the 1st National Jam Week ‘Jam Off!’

Jam Off Tastings

Michelle McKenna, proprietor of Clippy’s Apples, created the first National Jam Week this year and asked Ludlow Food Centre (LFC) to host the first ever ‘Jam Off’ competition on Saturday June 27th. The competition was aimed at being a bit fun giving producers from all over the UK a chance to put their products forward. Michelle’s long term vision is to build National Jam Week in to an event for everyone’s diaries. Thanks to LFC’s visitors there were 182 votes cast in a blind competition where all the jams were unnamed and displayed in plain white dishes. All we can say is that LFC customers are a loyal bunch because many identified their favourite Jam as being LFC’s very own. Darren Marsh and Tess Slater, LFC’s resident jam makers, were really pleased with the result after the hard work they had put in preparing their entries. Their Raspberry did well taking 1st in the single fruit category and their Celebration Jam took the honours in the multi-fruit category. However, there was a big surprise in the alternative category when Emily’s Jams took 1st with a very alternative Coconut and Pineapple Jam! The entries came from 11 producers including:

Thank you to everyone who voted, and to all the producers, we look forward to doing it all again next year!
