World Cheese Awards

Dudley and Paul, winners of three cheesemaking awards

The World Cheese Awards were held last week at Birmingham’s NEC. The event was part of the BBC Good Food Show that saw thousands of eager foodies turning out to sample and buy food. The World Cheese Awards had entries in countless categories from cheese makers large and small. Our very own cheese makers, Dudley Martin and Paul Bedford, entered three of our cheeses: Lady Halton Smoked, Remembered Hills and Croft Gold. In 2008 Croft Gold won a Silver Award and at this year’s awards it picked another Silver. It is rare for a cheese to win multiple awards and we are really proud of our Dairy team for keeping their standards so high. However, they had even greater success this year with Lady Halton Smoked which won a Gold Award! Lady Halton Smoked is the newest of our cheeses and it picked up an award at the British Cheese Awards in September too. It is carefully smoked using chippings from our estate and when fully matured is a semi-hard cheese. Dudley and Paul are trying to keep on top of demand which on the run up to Christmas is extremely high but come along to our deli to see and sample their cheese and the 80 others we have on offer.
