National Tourism Awards 2011

The Ludlow Food has won a national award at the Enjoy England Excellence in Tourism Awards held at Birmingham University’s Great Hall on Friday April 15th. The Food Centre picked up a silver award in the ‘Taste’ category beating off restaurants and hotels from all over the country, was the only farm shop represented in the whole awards and went in to the final having won the ‘Taste of the Heart’ award last year. Tom Hunt, Marketing Manager for the Food Centre says,

‘To be recognised at a national level for delivering a service and product that is worthy of such a prestigious award is superb. We are so proud of our 86 staff and the contribution they have made to making our business one of the best in the country’

The Food Centre lost out to the Porthminster Beach Cafe in Cornwall and were in a group made up almost entirely of restaurants. Mr Hunt says,

‘Our competition all get the opportunity to focus entirely on making food and they cater for small numbers. At the Food Centre we have to buy, prepare, sell and make food for over 130,000 customers a year... so for our standards to be as high as theirs is testament to quality we are providing’

The Food Centre celebrated its 4th birthday on April 18th. Since opening in 2007 it has championed local, seasonal and handmade food from Shropshire and the surrounding counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Powys. Mr Hunt says,

‘We have tried so hard to support and work with the food producers of this region whilst also growing our own talent in the production kitchens that surround the shop. It has been a challenge to establish a business of this size but winning awards like this make it all worthwhile’
