Luxurious and Local Christmas Gifts from Ludlow Food Centre

Christmas Hamper 2007

A new seasonal range of handmade Ludlow Food Centre food and drink gifts are now on sale in store and by mail order. The star attraction is the limited edition Christmas Hamper, a traditional wicker basket crammed with luxurious local goodies such as Romy Cuisine paté, made by French chefs in the heart of Wales and recently voted best paté in a jar by the Times and Daily Telegraph, award winning Tipsy Fruit Gins from Tenbury Wells, dark chocolates by Williams & Dunkerton of Leominster and moist, fruit-filled Christmas cakes and puddings made in-house by the Centre’s own bakers.

Priced at £100.00, with delivery available to all UK destinations, the Ludlow hamper makes the ideal present for the discerning food lover, with every item made by artisan producers in the Centre’s own kitchens or locally sourced from within the four counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Powys.

Taste the difference of seasonal produce, liqueurs and confectionary made the slow, old fashioned way with little or no food miles. The perfect accompaniment to cold meats and English cheeses, the specially created Yuletide pickle is a blend of local apples and onions, Christmas dried fruit and cranberries. Try it with Shropshire Fine Herbs’ Oatmeal Biscuits, each one cut by hand from organic flour and homegrown herbs. A dram of Hereford Apple Aperitif from the King Offa Distillery in Hereford, blends freshly pressed apple juice with cider brandy and is wonderful served chilled.

Great as edible stocking fillers are the boxed sampler sets, beautifully presented in recycled paper boxes and tied with ribbon. The Jam Box, the Marmalade Box and the Pickle Box each contain six jars of hand prepared preserves and condiments guaranteed to tantalise the tastebuds.

For warming up those frosty winter mornings try the Medium Cut Orange Marmalade with a tot of Whisky or the strangely delicious Lemon & Chilli from the Marmalade Box. For afternoon tea with a difference raid the Jam Box and try the Christmas jam on hot buttered crumpets or the traditional Raspberry jam (with pips!) in a Victoria sponge cake. For the savoury toothed, the Pickle Box bursts with mustards, chutneys, confit and sauces, all made using local ingredients, that will liven up any buffet and see you through those endless turkey sandwiches.

Other exclusive gift sets include a Smoked Salmon & Champagne box, featuring oak smoked salmon from The Organic Smokehouse; an Oil & Vinegars box and a Ploughmans box, featuring cheese from Ansteys of Worcester and a bottle of Wood’s Christmas Cracker ale.

The Ludlow Food Centre gift boxes will be officially launched at the BBC Good Food Show at Birmingham’s NEC, 28th November – 2nd December.
