The Ludlow Food Centre collected the prestigious 'Taste of the Heart' award at the 'Excellence In Tourism' awards ceremony held in Birmingham University’s Great Hall on October 21st. The awards saw 126 entries from businesses throughout the region and the Food Centre went through three rounds of judging to be crowned champion. The first round of judging took place back in July and there was a subsequent secret visit to the shortlisted finalists.

The Food Centre won the award because of its commitment to local produce, the quality of its food, the high levels of customer service and its ability to attract tourism to the region.

Tom Hunt, Marketing Manager at the Food Centre says,

‘When we entered in June we didn’t think that we would even be shortlisted so to win is overwhelming. Having been open for three and half years, and been a past winner of this award, it is even more important to be recognised because it shows we are keeping up our high standards. Winning is testament to the quality of our staff, the food they produce and the wide variety of award winning products that we can source from this region’

Mother and daughter bakery team, Brenda Gray and Anna Griffiths picked up the award for the Food Centre after names were picked out a of a hat to decide who attended the event. Anna says,

‘The Food Centre won this award two years ago so we thought it was unlikely to win again. We sat in the audience and when they announced the winner we couldn’t believe it! It was fantastic going on stage to collect the award but it’s great for everyone at the Food Centre to receive recognition for all the hard work they have put in’

The Food Centre will now be put forward to the National Tourism Awards and will compete against the nation’s best food producers, retailers and restaurants. However, there are more tests to come and the results will not be announced until the spring.
