Cheesemakers announced runners up at Great British Cheese Awards

Cheesemakers at Shropshire’s leading foodie destination came a close second in the battle to become Best Artisan Cheese Producer in the UK!

The dairy team, at Ludlow Food Centre based in Bromfield, were runners up in this category and received the recognition at a glamorous awards ceremony which was held in London on 25th October.

Dudley Martin, dairy manager at Ludlow Food Centre, said,” I am so proud of what our team has achieved. The competition was fierce and to be runners up in UK’s Best Artisan Cheese Producer” category is a fantastic achievement. We are continually striving for excellence with all our cheeses and to be recognised by the independent experts at The Great British Cheese Awards as one of the very best artisan cheese producers in the UK makes all the hard work by the dairy team worth it.

Jon Edwards. Managing Director said, “I have a team to be very proud of. We only have a small team working in our dairy and yet we consistently produce some of the best cheeses in the UK and I am thrilled that the team have received the recognition they truly deserve”.

Ludlow Food Centre typically stocks around 50-60 artisan cheeses specially selected by Dudley and his team, along with the eight-national award winning cheeses he makes on site with his fellow cheesemaker Paul Bedford.

Ludlow Food Centre stores all its own cheeses in a specialist ripening fridge at optimum temperature and humidity to ensure each cheese is in perfect condition before transferring to its cheese counter, which was opened in 2015.

The awards, sponsored by Great British Chefs and artisan crispbread producer Peter’s Yard celebrate the very best in cheese production and retail across the country.
